This helps to boost confidence and motivation among struggling readers, critical factors for their reading improvement.

This observational study highlights educators’ efforts in assisting struggling readers to overcome their difficulties. Teaching reading requires the application of various strategies, including phonetics education, high-frequency words instruction, use of audiobooks, regular reading habits, constant assessment, and technology integration, accommodating different learning styles and needs. This method remarkably improved vocabulary and increased comprehension among struggling readers.

The software Read&Write, for example, offers text-to-speech features, serving dyslexic students or those who have difficulty decoding written words. It also includes a dictionary, picture dictionary, and predictive text capabilities, supporting the expansion of vocabulary and comprehension skills.

One observed approach that exhibited successful results utilized a mix of school-based and home-based education. The teachers provided one-on-one attention to individual students, engaging in phonics-based instruction to meet their specific needs. They used flashcards and matching games, while also introducing synthetic phonics teaching that involved teaching the sounds of letters first before blending them into words. This approach was termed multisensory, as it engages several senses at once, creating a more engaging and memorable experience.
